The leap across the Elbe...
What a beautiful training spot...
I'm so glad the ferryman doesn't start until "ten" on weekends...that gave me a wonderful training session with a view of the Elbe! A well-known haulage contractor from the region suddenly stood beside me and a most interesting conversation developed about old cars, old values and their decline...
When he had heard my story, he said: "You're doing exactly the right thing, young man! I wish you all the best imaginable, stay healthy and keep your primal faith!" There was a firm handshake and a mutual deep look into each other's eyes. Then he turned around, went to his BMW SUV beast (Yes, a fat M-model), started it, waved and rolled away...
The ferry came and with my boarding it came the memories of my childhood, when we took this route to my grandparents in Warmsdorf. This time it wasn't childlike excitement, as in the past, but a little melancholy, as this crossing took place with the knowledge that I was doing it for the last time.
When I then stood between Unterland and Oberland in Warmsdorf, parked in front of the old sheep barn, I took the time to give space to my memories of childhood and youth while I rolled myself a cigarette. Then, after a deep breath, I made my way to the cemetery where my two paternal grandparents are buried. Another playing card left me, just as at my father's funeral 6 months earlier, and there was a farewell photo. That I was reflected in the gravestone, as was my background, I only noticed much later.
Since there is no real connection to the paternal part of the family anymore and I also wanted to be with myself in thoughts and emotions, I decided against a spontaneous visit to the remaining relatives on site.
My journey continued!
